US manufacturing inquiry includes oxytocin, vasopressin and peptide starting materials
The US Office of Management and Budget requested information on September 25 about domestic and near-shore production of essential medicines, including APIs and key starting materials. Responses are due October 26.
The attached medicine list includes oxytocin and vasopressin. For these peptides, it identifies protected amino acids and peptide fragments among the relevant starting materials, extending the inquiry upstream of finished-dose production.
Manufacturers are asked to describe current output, unused capacity, new projects, regulatory status and the countries supplying their inputs. The notice also seeks information on costs, required demand and financing, including potential offtake arrangements.
OMB says the responses may inform federal acquisition efforts and possible financial assistance. The exercise is market research, not a supply contract or funding award. Participation excludes foreign entities of concern as defined in the notice.
For qualifying API and starting-material producers, the immediate milestone is the opportunity to submit evidence of manufacturing capability and its commercial requirements. Any resulting procurement volumes, project support or supply agreements remain to be determined.
