# Peptide industry's race to scale up takes center stage at TIDES Europe

**TideMetrix will attend TIDES Europe 2026**, reporting on developments in peptide manufacturing capacity, production technologies and upstream raw-material markets.

From Eli Lilly's retatrutide manufacturing strategy to new approaches to peptide synthesis at Asymchem, TIDES Europe 2026 will put the industry's scale-up challenge under the microscope when manufacturers and suppliers gather in Amsterdam on November 3–5.

The three-day conference comes as pharmaceutical companies and contract manufacturers work to expand production of increasingly complex peptide therapeutics, improve manufacturing efficiency and control costs amid growing demand for GLP-1 drugs.

Organized by Informa Connect, TIDES Europe expects more than 900 industry participants, with a program spanning peptide and oligonucleotide development, manufacturing and commercialization.

## GLP-1 manufacturing under the microscope

Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk will feature prominently in the opening keynote program on November 3.

Novo Nordisk's Jacob Challand Kofoed will discuss next-generation GLP-1 therapeutics, while Eli Lilly's Michael Kopach will examine the chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) strategy behind retatrutide, the company's investigational triple-receptor agonist.

Eli Lilly will also present a session examining the manufacturing challenges associated with tirzepatide, offering insights into the pressures of scaling peptide production to meet commercial demand.

## From capacity expansion to manufacturing efficiency

The conference will feature leading peptide contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), including Bachem, PolyPeptide and CordenPharma.

Their presentations will address manufacturing complex peptides, accelerating process development and improving production efficiency.

Asymchem will explore advances in flow chemistry for peptide manufacturing, while other sessions will examine purification technologies and process optimization.

The discussions highlight a fundamental challenge for the industry: building new capacity is only part of the equation. Manufacturers must also improve productivity, yields and process reliability to translate investment into commercially viable supply.

## What does the scale-up race mean for raw materials?

The rapid expansion of peptide manufacturing raises important questions for suppliers of protected amino acids, synthesis resins, solvents and specialty building blocks.

Will growing production volumes translate into tighter availability or higher prices for critical raw materials? And could advances in synthesis technology change the quantities and types of materials manufacturers need?

These questions are particularly relevant as peptide producers seek to improve manufacturing economics while expanding output.

Companies including Senn Chemicals, Sichuan Tongsheng, Chengdu ZY Biochemical and PharmaBlock are among the exhibitors, bringing together suppliers from across the upstream peptide supply chain.

The interplay between capacity expansion, process innovation and raw-material demand will be an important area to watch as the industry scales up.
